Null / Nonnull is one of the 16 Reinin dichotomies. Specifically, it's #0, which has given rise to the belief that there are only 15 Reinin Dichotomies. There are other good reasons for this belief, as noted below.
Null and nonnull types
- Null types are ESS, SES, SLS, ILL, SLL, LIS, SEL, ESL, LIL, LSL, EIS, LSS, ILS, IEL, IES, EIL
- Nonnull types are ESE, SEE, SLE, ILI, SLI, LIE, SEI, ESI, LII, LSI, EIE, LSE, ILE, IEI, IEE, EII
- Using the four-letter code: Nonnull types have either an E or an I as the first letter; Null types do not.
Theoretical properties of null and nonnull types
All actual Socionic types are nonnull types. In their Model A representation, nonnull types have each of the eight information elements in some function position; null types may not, although no one is quite clear on this.
Typical characteristics
Null types
- Do not exist.
- Tend to speak in fifth person.
- Result in contradictions when discussed seriously.
Nonnull types
- Exist.
- Tend to have arms and legs.
- May be able to read.
